About Felicity
Welcome to Rare Rocks!
This blog is where I write about things that inspire, challenge, or encourage me to be more intentional in my relationship with God and with the people in my life.
I believe spiritual things happen in real places. This is our only true hope of transformation, isn’t it, since we must live our lives most often under ordinary circumstances? I hope what I write here will help you make those connections; I know it helps me to have a place to write about it.
This Rare Rocks analogy is a specific work in progress about how we are meant to be something beautiful. We are created this way, but we also have the opportunity to accentuate this beauty through discipline and perseverance. I see a perfect example of this in the refinement process of a gemstone – that’s where the title Rare Rocks comes in.
My non-blog life is about learning; I’m a teacher by profession and a perpetual student by heart. I finally finished my BA in English last year from the University of Illinois and I’m currently stressing out over graduate school applications. In the meantime, I teach writing and spiritual formation courses at Heartland Christian College.
I married well. I mean, I knew he was cute and talented, but he has surpassed my expectations in a million other ways. My husband, Dan, and I treasure four little jewels of our own: Jesse Daniel, Claire Felicity, Ada Jewel, and Macy Cheri. Together we also keep alive the memory of our glory baby and Claire’s twin sister, Ellery Blythe, who died shortly after their premature birth (read a summarized version of their birth story here). Because of Ellery we don’t just look forward to Heaven someday, we need it desperately now. Thanks to the rich heritage of faith and family in our early lives, Dan and I now cultivate a home where we are the best of friends and each other’s biggest fans.
I hope you enjoy yourself here. I post at least twice a week and would love for you to join the conversation!
Here’s to becoming Rare Rocks!
